Door slammers 2021 Report from  Alice Fairhead

In 2020 Doorslammers didn’t happen due to the Covid pandemic and in 2021 we were glad it returned. Unfortunately, due to foreign travel restrictions, we greatly missed our foreign friends this year but it was still an event not to be missed with £40,000 in prize money up for grabs

In 2020 Doorslammers didn’t happen due to the Covid pandemic and in 2021 we were glad it returned. Unfortunately, due to foreign travel restrictions, we greatly missed our foreign friends this year but it was still an event not to be missed with £40,000 in prize money up for grabs.

This year Doorslammers was mixed with VW Action so it featured action on and off track with an array of VW’s racing as part of Doorslammers and in the Show ‘n’ Shine off track. The racing was split up into several different classes depending on engine size or style. After a couple of days of open qualifying, number one qualifiers were as follows, Bruno Bader in the VP Racing Fuels Pro Doorslammer class, Andy Bond in the Fast R Street class, Calvin Skerritt in the Front Wheel Drive class, Kev Jenkins in the A-Plan sponsored 4 cylinder class and Gary Gooding was number one in the 6 cylinder class.

At Doorslammers the ‘Big Bracket’ class is run both days so two chances to win, on Saturday Keith Herbert took the win over Peter Lane with it happening over again on Sunday. Saturday night the pairings were picked randomly out of a hat ready for Sunday’s racing with some very exciting matchups to come.

Sunday morning came once again the weather was lovely and it was eliminations time, every round the numbers got reduced and for each next round the pairings were randomly picked until the final 2 in each class remained.

The final results are as follows; Bruno Bader defeat Kev Slyfield in Pro Doorslammer, Dave Mace defeat Andy Bond in Fast R Street class, Andy Nicholls defeat Stephen Ray in Front Wheel Drive, Kev Jenkins defeat Andy Hughes in A-Plan 4 cylinder class, Gary Gooding defeat Jeff Ludgate in the 6 cylinder class and in Sundays Big Bracket racing Billy Gane took the win over Lee Huxley.

We can’t thank everyone at Santa Pod enough for their endless work every weekend but Doorslammers was a chunk of normality after a big break and it was so good to be back. Event results courtesy of Eurodragster.com
