116 Trophy

GAZ SHOCKS 116 TROPHY·TUESDAY, JANUARY 28, 2020·

New for 2019, the 116 Trophy is a low cost endurance race formula for the Mk1 (E87) BMW 1 Series. All cars must be a five-door hatch using the 1.6i N45 engine produced between 2004 and 2006, and use the five-speed manual gearbox.

Control parts required will be kept to an absolute minimum - suspension is from Gaz Shocks but these will only be adjustable at the rear and fixed upfront, with a bolt-in roll cage, a Klarius exhaust and little else. The series will have an endurance bias with longer races in order for drivers to share cars, and ultimately ensure that the racing is as cost effective as possible in UK club motorsport. Donor cars are readily available for less than £1000, meaning that a ready to race 116 Trophy car can cost less than £5000 for the home builder.

The commercial side of the 116 Trophy is run by Mark Bate, but will join the 750 Motor Club’s portfolio of formulae in 2019. As the Home Of Affordable Motorsport in the UK, 750MC’s ethos of offering great value motorsport without compromising on quality is an ideal match for the 116 Trophy.

Keen an eye on the Facebook page feed for the earliest announcement of a provisional 2019 calendar and draft regulations, but with the number of cars in build increasing every week, there are plenty of opportunities to get up close and personal before next season. Come and find us in the 750 Motor Club garage at the MotorsportDaysLIVE event at Silverstone’s Wing complex on 2nd/3rd November 2018, where you can not only meet the team and see the cars, but also get out on track for a passenger ride. We will also have three or four of the first finished 116 Trophy cars forming a team to take on the Birkett Relay Race at Silverstone on the 27th October, and then finally look out for a 116 Trophy car on the 750 Motor Club stand at the Autosport International Show at the Birmingham NEC on 10th-13th January 2019.

Want to know more? Don’t forget to like this page to get all the latest updates, and click the ‘About’ tab for contact details for the team. Novice drivers are more than welcome - get in touch with the 750 Motor Club on 01332 814548 to find out how easily you can get on the grid in 2019.
