Cupra Leon TCR
Do you love the edge of these Cupra Leon TCRS'? Yeah. Same here - With its sharp angles and decent performance on the track - You wouldn't want to sleep on these Cupra Leon TCRs'.
Since the weather felt warm last Saturday afternoon in TCR UK Oulton Park round, I had to contend with heat haze (it makes the straight lines appear bubbly), so I had to shoot on a larger F-Stop number focus on the touring cars. But, again, I rose above the challenge.
Volkswagen Golf GTi TCR
What would you rate the livery on the Volkswagen Golf GTi TCR out of 10? 8. Fair point - With its unique hexagon white, green and black livery. The Volkswagen Golf GTi TCR placed a smile on my face.
From a motorsport photographer's perspective, it's harder to take a rear three quarter tracking shot of race cars. However, compared to a front three quarter tracking shot; but, if you get a crispy rear three quarter tracking shot. Case in point - this shot of the Golf GTi TCR.
Hyundai i30N TCR
What's my favourite Touring Car? Alfa Romeo 155. Great Choice - Though I'm bias lies on the Hyundai i30N TCR (since my Dad's got the road-going variant), it puts on an epic show at Oulton Park and looks great at the same time.
It's an excellent coincidence to get a group shot of the 44 and 38 Essex & Kent Motorsport Hyundai i30N TCRs' on the chicanes at Oulton Park. Can you see the Golf GTi TCR behind the Hyundai's?
Mercedes A-Class BTCC
Why is this Mercedes A-Class so special? It's the fastest. Incorrect - many of the other Touring Cars outrun this Mercedes, the A-Class's the only BTCC Car on the grid.
The Mercedes A-Class put on an incredible show with clipping apexes and humourlessly mowing the grass on the corners. The BTCC A-Class later returned into the pit-stop to remove the grass; so it can go on its way on the circuit.
Opel Astra J TCR
Do you love the wing on this Opel Astra J TCR? Nope. Why not - With its crazy yet functional swan wing, the Astra J TCR drove as good as it looked on the circuit.
Why aren't you calling it Vauxhall Astra TCR? Great question - Since this Touring Car Series' is a European Racing Championship, the teams buy these cars from Europe, where Opel makes their cars.
Audi RS3 LMS
Where would you test drive this Audi RS3 LMS? Paul Ricard. Though Paul Ricard's a phenomenal test track, it lacks the presence and drama Oulton Park provides.
When photographing this RS3 LMS on the track, I wanted to get a crispy shot of the Audi with some exciting composition with the tarmac drawing eyes to the cars in this tracking shot. Yeah!
Conclusion
Have you heard of the Maximum Network TCR UK Championship? Nope. That's what I thought. So many people know about the BTCC, DTM and NASCAR; the Touring Car Championship feels like an overlooked championship.
