Car culture comes in all shapes and sizes, but for some enthusiasts, it comes in scales as well. Meet Seth Matteson, a 22-year-old Biochemistry and History student at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, who, in his spare time, is a car enthusiast, 1/64th scale diecast collector, Instagram content creator, and photographer.
Seth began collecting Hot Wheels ever since he was a child, but once he learned more about Hot Wheels' history through the internet, he was inspired in a new way and transitioned from being just another kid who bought Hot Wheels to someone with a more serious focus on collecting.
Since 2012 he has amassed a collection filled with not just JDM, but also muscle cars, vintage Hot Wheels, Euro, and other obscure car brands. He began taking photos of cars in his collection during middle school, but over time he began to improve his photography skills, especially since he received his first DSLR camera from his family for his 17th birthday.
Now, he has over 3,000 followers on Instagram and over 400 published, original photos of cars in his collection. He finds that photography is not only a favourite pastime of his but also another way to share his faith with others. “I have taken photos of Hot Wheels ever since I was in 8th grade, but I didn’t start publishing them until the pandemic hit. I am immensely thankful to God for my page’s success, and I am so glad I began sharing my content with everyone.”
